Today's question comes from author Marsha Coles:
This week my second book will be released and I am trying to figure out
how to create a press kit with more than one book. Do I need two
different press kits; one for each book? That seems like a waste of
paper to me; having to send two press kits to the same place but I will
do it if that is what needs to be done.

Marsha –
Congratulations on the publication of your second book!
You do not need a separate media kit for each book. You can create a separate Web site to highlight each book, but your media kit will be virtually same always.
How your kit is presented depends on if you do it online or via PDF. The information, however, will stay much the same.
You will always need:
- Your bio
- Your photo
- Cover blurb for your most recent work
- Cover art for most recent work
- Review blurbs for your new book
- Contact info
- Interview availability
- Q&A for virtual book tours, including personal and new book questions
Thriller author Jordan Dane has an excellent PDF download as part of her online media kit, used for the tour of three-book series last year. You can view a copy of Dane's press kit at her Web site. While the PDF hasn't been updated with the new book information, Dane's Web site has it prominently featured on the homepage, with links to important information media needs. There is also a special news release about the book, Evil Without a Face, on the media page.
Read more about media kits in these two articles:
The Top Three Gripes of a Virtual Book Tour Host – and How You Can Avoid Them
Notice, too, that most of the information about Dane in the PDF will remain the same. Your bio will never change – only tweak. The only information that should change constantly is the book information.
Author Tricia Goyer has a comprehensive press kit that is worth a look. You can find it at her Web site:
http://www.triciagoyer.com/presskit.html
Personally, I thought it was a little long when I first saw it, but it is so thorough and well-defined, it was worth the read. I was able to tell exactly what she wrote, when she wrote it, and what the immediate hook was – not so much a new book, but her speaking ability.
These authors have excellent press kits on their Web sites. Notice how
all the press is focused on the new novel, with supporting documents
about previous works.
PDFs are more difficult to pull cover art and your photo for virtual
book tour or press stops, so be sure you have them available as
downloads on your Web site.
Hope this helps. Good luck to you!
