Rebecca -

I have seen the same thing. What stinks about those "wonderful" reviews for horrible work is when I get the book to review and tell the truth. =0) Reviewers have been in situations where those die-hard fans turn into online trolls. Total craziness!!!

The self-published arena seems to be the worst for this in rankings. That is incredibly sad, because it just continues the stigma of self-publishing.

That, however, is a rant for another day. LOL

Thanks for reading!

This is a great post. I have seen this go both ways. Both the one-star rankings for no reason, and the five-star rankings because they're friends of the author or getting paid to review.

I read a book this week where the author had obviously done a good job marketing, because it was a horrifyingly poorly written self-published book, yet it had twenty-some five-star reviews up on Amazon! Wow. I hope no one takes those too seriously, either.
